10 Most Asked Questions

When I'm at book signings, people ask me lots of things about the writing industry.  So I thought I would put some of them here just in case you're curious.

    1.  Who do I base my characters on?

Normally, my characters are based on events going on around me or sometimes they just pop into my brain and refused to leave until I write them a story.

    2. How long does it take to write a story?

Now that depends on what else is going on my life.  Like now, I'm attending college full time, working part time, and writing, so it takes the better part of six to eight months.  If there's not much else going on it could take at least four months.  That's with writing eight hours a day, seven days a week.

    3.  What is my advice to new writers?

Write, write, write.  You can never write too much.  Plus, join a writers' group.  You will learn so much when you interact with other people with the same goal of getting published.  I joined Romance Writers of America and found the organization very helpful and I learned so much.

    4.  Who influenced my career?

First, I'd have to say my family.  Then, I'd have to say the romance writers that came before me.  Plus, all the people who enjoy my stories.  Every time someone sends me an email or tells me how much they enjoy the stories I write, I get such a boost.

    5. How do I pick my character's names?

I usually pick Irish names. Or sometimes when characters pop into my head, they already have a name

What do I look for in a book?

    1. Are the characters real?  When they're too wealthy, I can't feel sympathy for the character.  They have to work toward something.
    2. No baby momma, baby daddy disaster stories.
    3. I like stories that uplift me.  Something that makes me feel good, not so sad that I'm using a box of tissues by the end of the novel.
